Department of Civil Engineering
Preamble :-
The Department of Civil Engineering was established the academic year 2010-11. Since its inception, the primary objective of the department has been to impart quality education, training, and research at the undergraduate levels in various areas of Civil Engineering, with broad emphasis on structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, water resources engineering, transportation engineering, and environmental engineering. The department has a team of well-experienced faculty members.
The department is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories featuring modern equipment, providing students with hands-on experience essential for their professional development. The Civil Engineering department also has a research center recognized by KBC North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon, offering a Ph.D. (Civil Engineering) program. Currently 4 research scholars are pursuing their Ph.D. from the department.
The department has consistently been on a high growth path and is known for its experienced and dedicated faculty with a strong commitment to engineering education. Post-autonomy, to keep pace with current technological trends, the undergraduate curricula are continuously updated to meet the needs of the industry. The most recent revision was made in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP-2020), with all relevant features adopted by the department.
The major areas of faculty expertise in the department includes Environmental Engineering, Structural Engineering and Geotechnical Engineering.
The Civil Engineering course offered by the department is known for its applied nature, which includes a strong laboratory component and project work in each year of study (from the second year to the fourth year of B. Tech.). It is designed for students who aspire to become professional engineers in various fields of civil engineering. The course emphasizes the importance of structural design, geotechnical analysis, environmental sustainability, and the application of principles developed in the course to solve significant practical problems. The department’s workshop and laboratory facilities are extensively used by students for project work, which is a major feature of the course. The department also provides tools for simulation and computer-aided design, ensuring students are well-versed in modern engineering practices.

Beyond academic activities and achievements, the students of the Civil Engineering Department have demonstrated skills in various extracurricular domains, including research paper presentations, sports, and cultural activities. They actively participate in activities such as personality development programs, group discussions, workshops, tree plantation drives, and campus cleanliness campaigns, blood donation and cloths donation activities. Many students have pursued further studies at reputed institutes like IITs and NITs for their M. Tech. degrees. Many students have also been selected for various posts in State Government Departments.

Civil Engineering Department (Laboratories Overview)
The Civil Engineering Department at the Government College of Engineering, Jalgaon, is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories that provide students with hands-on experience in various aspects of civil engineering. These laboratories are essential for the practical application of theoretical knowledge and play a crucial role in research and development activities. Below is an overview of the key laboratories:
1. Concrete Technology Laboratory
The Concrete Technology Laboratory is designed to provide students with an understanding of the properties and behavior of concrete and its components. It is equipped with modern testing machines for assessing the quality of materials, mix design, and the strength of concrete. Students conduct experiments related to the workability, durability, and strength of concrete mixes, gaining valuable insights into construction materials.
2. Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory
This laboratory focuses on the study of soil mechanics and foundation engineering. It is equipped with apparatus for testing soil properties such as permeability, shear strength, compaction, bearing capacity and consolidation. The Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory helps students understand the behavior of soils under various loading conditions, which is essential for designing foundations and earth structures.
3. Environmental Engineering Laboratory
The Environmental Engineering Laboratory provides students with the tools to analyze and understand water and wastewater treatment processes. Civil Engineering Students Association (CESA)
The Civil Engineering Students Association (CESA) is a vibrant and proactive organization committed to providing a well-rounded educational experience for aspiring civil engineers. The Civil Engineering Students Association popularly known as CESA was established in 2011-12 at GCEO, Jalgaon. All civil engineering students of the institute are member of the CESA, which is controlled by a body comprising of undergraduate students and faculty member. CESA at GCEO, Jalgaon was established with a prime objective to proliferate knowledge and address industrial issues by bringing corporate, professors and students on common platform. CESA aim to promote Civil Engineering by organising regular activities like technical seminars, games, talk on ongoing research practices or industrial expert lectures.

Community and Social Interaction:
- Blood Donation: CESA organizes Blood Donation camp. The primary objective of the camp was to encourage voluntary blood donation among students, faculty, and staff, as well as to contribute to the noble cause of saving lives.
- "Hands of Hope Donation Drive": Civil Engineering Students Association (CESA) of Government College of Engineering, Jalgaon, organized a thoughtful donation drive, collecting old clothes and shoes for those in need. This initiative aimed to promote social responsibility and extend support to underprivileged communities.
- Teachers' Day Celebration: An event dedicated to appreciating and honoring the commitment of educators, strengthening the relationship between teachers and students.
- Clean Campus Drive: This initiative aimed to promote cleanliness and environmental awareness within the college campus.
- No Drugs Campaign: The event aimed to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and promote a drug-free lifestyle among the students and community.
- Farewell Function and Felicitation Ceremony for final year students: An event for graduating students. The event celebrates the achievements of the students and honored their contributions to the department, providing a warm send-off as they embark on their professional journeys.
CESA is dedicated to the welfare and holistic development of students from the Civil Engineering department. Throughout the year, various activities aimed at enhancing the overall growth of students are conducted.
All CESA activities and events are organized under the guidance of Prof. V. T. Patil, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, and Shri. V. P. Jadhao, CESA Faculty Incharge.
