Fostering Innovation and Excellence: A Message from the Principal
Dear all,
I hope this message finds you in good health and high spirits. As the Principal of Government College of Engineering, Jalgaon, I am honoured to address our valued stakeholders and share some key aspects that I find instrumental in shaping the future of our esteemed institution.
- Innovative Learning and Assessment: Embracing the transformative vision of the National Education Policy 2020, we will actively implement innovative approaches to learning and assessment. Our focus will be on creating a dynamic and flexible educational experience that equips students with the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving global landscape. As recommended by Hon. Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar sir in his report^ of the task force for implementation of NEP 2020 in Maharashtra titled “Rethink, Reimagine, Reinvent”, the new type of education should be “Education in Innovation” instead of “Innovation in Education”. Teachers and students must find innovative ways in knowledge transfer. The same goes with assessment as well.
- Multidisciplinary Approach and 21st Century Skills: We will commit ourselves to providing a multidisciplinary education which will ensure that our students acquire a diverse skill set. We will strive to equip them with modern 21st-century skills, viz, Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, Curiosity and Communication. These will enable our students to approach problems with creativity and innovation. Using modern tools and technologies - like that of AI, ML, etc. - will be essential for the career growth of all students. Let me confess that I have taken some help in writing these thoughts using Chat GPT! Of course, I gave all the prompts needed as per my thoughts, and later modified the AI version also.
- Industry, Alumni, and Stakeholder Engagement: Building and maintaining strong connections with industry partners, alumni, and other stakeholders is pivotal and non-negotiable. These collaborations will enhance the practical relevance of our programmes, provide valuable insights, and create opportunities for our students to bridge the gap between academia and industry. We shall leave no stone unturned to make this relationship vibrant and happening.
- Innovation and Startup Ecosystem: Fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship is the need of the hour to realize the dream of making India, i.e., Bharat, self-reliant. As a Nation, we are already experiencing exponential growth in the startup mindset during the last few years, and this is going to expand beyond doubt. Recognizing this dynamic landscape, we will try to create an environment that nurtures creative thinking and provides a platform for the development of innovation and startup ecosystem through collaborative efforts that not only benefits our students but also contributes to the broader socio-economic growth of our motherland. We should focus on practical knowledge by making effective use of modern labs, Creator's club, Liberal Learning, etc.
- Solving Real-World Problems: The real power of engineering education is in solving real-world challenges. Our students will be encouraged to apply their knowledge to address local and regional issues - with an eye on making impact globally - fostering a sense of social responsibility and community engagement. Efforts will be made to make them socially responsible while applying their knowledge by improving community outreach. This can be done through identifying and accepting the challenges to solve real-world problems. As discussed earlier, innovation and creativity with a multidisciplinary approach will be the key aspects for the solution.
- Institute Vision and Mission: We remain steadfast in our pursuit of the institute's vision and mission. Our goal is to make GCOE, Jalgaon, not only vibrant within our community but also visible on the global stage. Comprehensive review will be taken to modify the vision and mission, if needed, to align them with the current and future scenario.
- Rankings and Accreditations: We are actively working towards improving our rankings, such as NIRF, and obtaining prestigious accreditations like NAAC and NBA. These achievements are a testament to our commitment to academic excellence and quality assurance. We will continue to work more to achieve consistently good rankings nationally so that the institute brand will continue to grow. Continuous faculty development is also one of the important factors for overall success.
- Promoting a Culture of Collaboration: Encouraging a helping nature among our students, faculty and staff is paramount. We believe that a collaborative and supportive community is essential for the common good, fostering an environment where everyone can thrive. In fact, I have circulated a draft of this Principal’s message to students for taking their inputs. There were many good suggestions, and they are included in the message also. I will try to promote this culture of collaboration and cooperation everywhere.
- Beautiful and Vibrant Campus: The campus environment is as essential as many other things. It will be made conducive and vibrant where all stakeholders will be proud of. There will be many clubs for different purposes which will make the campus a happening place where students will want to stay even on holidays!
In conclusion, the success of our institution is deeply intertwined with the support and collaboration of our stakeholders. Together, we can shape a future where GCOE, Jalgaon, stands as a beacon of innovation, excellence, and positive impact with a firm belief in social good. With these thoughts in our mind, I dedicate hashtag #KeepInnovatingEveryDay as our institute’s hashtag for this year. Please use the same everywhere: in your email signature, on social media, messages, etc.
Hoping that you will all keep innovating every day, and thanking you for your continued support and expecting to get more,
Dr. Suhas S. Gajre
